Week 37

Hello from sunny Arizona!

April 20
Today P-day was kind of boring. Nobody showed up to the stake center.  After P-day ended, we talked with a potential investigator, Addison, who isn't very interested at the time. We then dropped off some pamphlets at Andrea Tovars for her dad to have, which was exciting! Then we headed back to the apartment for exchanges. I will be with Elder Timm in his area tomorrow.

April 21
Today we were on exchanges. I was in the other area with Elder Timm.  It was a pretty fun day. We visited a lot of potential investigators and less actives. We had dinner at the McClellan's which was good and then we met a really cool guy Gerald who is a referral. Then we exchanged back.

April 22
Today we did the safeguards for using mobile devices online course again and did some weekly planning. We had dinner dropped of by the Carmichael's. We had a really good coordination meeting then made visits to end the night. Also a cool highlight of the day was giving a granola bar to a pan handler which made me feel really good!

April 23
Today we had Zone Conference which was great but sooooo long! It was from 10 to 3:30, a lot of mental focus required! Afterwards we went to Big Hengs a Chinese restaurant with Sister Tovar for dinner. We made visits the rest of the night.

April 24
Today we had district meeting which was alright. Afterwards we made some visits and had dinner at the Pearson's with the Miller's which was really good hamburgers and hot dogs. After dinner we went to an appointment with a nurse to check out Elder Davis ear problem to find out its allergy related then we went back to pick up the helmet he accidentally left in our ward mission leaders truck.

April 25
Today we taught Sister Rios. Afterwards we went to the Church to talk to the other Elders about something and we found out there was a funeral that was happening that day so we attended that and the luncheon was really good! Afterwards we made some visits before having dinner at the LaMunyon's which was really good pizza! We made visits the rest of the night and actually talked to our investigator Richard for a while!

April 26
Today church was pretty good. Sacrament had good talks on families.  Guess who didn't show up to Gospel Principles class today... that's right our Gospel Principles teacher who didn't let anyone know he wouldn't be there. So guess who got to teach that on no notice... we did.  And guess who didn't show up for Elders Quorum lesson.... whoever was supposed to teach, and we almost got volunteered not teach but our ward mission leader took the lesson I wasn't too happy after almost being thrown into two blind lessons. Guess who we had dinner with.... our Gospel Principles teacher and he didn't say a word about not being at Church which irritated me a little more. We made visits the rest of the night I'm ready for a good P-day.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Love you all,
Elder Ashby

Week 36

Greetings from AZ!!!  Here is the update for this week....

 April 13
Happy 8th birthday to me and Elder Davis! Pday was pretty good played some chair soccer and basketball which was fun! Our appointment with the Arbuledas cancelled. We made visits to end the night.

April 14
Today was good we did service for the same lady we did on Saturday! We had dinner at the Rivas which was good and they are really cool and very missionary minded! We made visits to end the night.

April 15
Today we did our weekly planning because we have service tomorrow. We had dinner at the Hardt's which was really good! We had our coordination meeting then we went to the apartment to fix my handlebars!

April 16
Today we did service for United Way helping homeless people with a variety of things. For the first two hours or so there was a lot more volunteers than homeless people so they had us wait in the orientation room where they were playing worldly music which was nice to hear haha! After all of that and dinner we went and made visits and taught Andrea Tovar (member). Pretty good day.

April 17
Our lesson with our investigator Richard cancelled. We had district meeting which was good. Dinner at the apartment again. We were making visits when we had more trouble with my handlebars so we went back and fixed them to end the night.

April 18
Today we did service where we cleaned trash out of a river bed. We went to lunch at In & Out and a member from the Centennial Ward paid for us! We had a good lesson with Nick too bad we will have to refer him to the zone leaders. We were heading back to the apartment for dinner and went through the park and a ward from Glendale was having their annual BBQ and invited us to join! We tracted and then made visits to end the night!

April 19
Today we had ward council which was really good! Church was good! We picked up dinner from the Sharps because their kids were sick. After dinner we went to cottage meeting which is a meeting for investigators and recent converts a couple of the recent converts came it was a pretty cool meeting! As we headed in our Gospel Principles teacher dropped off brownies for us teaching gospel principles the previous week!

The way they water the parks out here, is they flood them overnight.  So in the morning they are like a lake....

Have a great week everyone!!!!

Love,
Elder Ashby

Week 35

Hello everyone.  I thought I would try a different way to send my messages home this week.  I decided to do some video messaging.  Hope you enjoy.  The area is pretty slow right now, but we seem to be getting some traction with the members.  They seem to be getting the missionary spirit.  We continue to work hard and do all we can to move the work forward.

Week 34

Hello everyone!

Monday March 30

Today P-Day wasn't that good.  I was in a bad mood all day.  We played basketball at the Stake Center with the other Missionaries that didn't help the mood.  Just spent the whole night in not so good mood.  Tomorrow will be another day!

Tuesday March 31

Today I called to set up and appointment to have my ingrown toe looked at.  We did have a cool experience when a guy flagged us down to talk and it turns out he recently got out of jail and wants to learn about the Church.  We made visits the rest of the day!

Wednesday April 1

Happy April Fools Day!  Today I was on Exchanges with Elder Owens, which was fun because we got to use the car!  We contacted a lot of former and potential investigators.  Pretty good day.  At the end of the day we played Munchkin...and I won!

Thursday April 2

We did weekly planning today.  Then Waldo's Taco's dropped off dinner!  It was soooo good!  We shared an Easter message with Bishop Harding and he gave us 2 referrals to visit and we set up lessons with both of those member families!  Elder Timm cut my hair tonight, I love short hair (especially in this heat)!  Got two packages from Mattie today!

Friday April 3

Today we had a good District Meeting!  Our lesson with Nicole Maya cancelled.  We had a super good dinner at the Eaton's...loved the broccoli salad (did I just say that???).  We shared a message with Sister Rankin to end the day!

Saturday April 4

General Conference was awesome!  In between the afternoon session and the Priesthood session, Sister Stowel dropped off a pizza.  Got a package from the family!  Looking forward to more Conference tomorrow!

Sunday April 5

Conference was really good today!  In between sessions a Sister from the other Elders Ward fed us lunch and we talked to her and her friend that was recently baptized.  We had dinner at the Hagensen's!  Pretty good day!

My favorite talk was by Wilford W. Anderson, who spoke on teaching the dance steps (the gospel) to children, but most importantly teaching them to hear the music (the Spirit)!

Hope you all have a great week!

Love you all!
