Week 28

Hello everyone,

Monday February 16
Today was a pretty good P-day! We headed into Flagstaff to play basketball
with other missionaries which was a lot of fun! When P-day was over, we
shared a message with the Adams, and then ended the night by teaching
Travis Grantham which was interesting but good. He had a lot of weird
concerns that were brought up but we found out that he hadn't prayed
specifically to know if the Book of Mormon is true. I don't know what
his progression is gonna be like.

Tuesday February 17
Today was pretty good during online time. I started talking to Joel and
apparently he is dating a member and is going to church! And also
Eliza Beeson messaged me after my post telling me how much it helped
her, which is always really cool to hear! We went to Flagstaff to
practice our song that the Elders are singing for the Priesthood Session
of Stake Conference on Sunday. This evening we taught Chris, Rachel was
sick, but it was a really good lesson with Chris and he is still
excited to be baptized.

Wednesday February 18
Today we went out to Parks and visited the younger Tiemans, he showed
us his huge garage that he built which was awesome! Then we taught the
older Tiemans, and Freddie, then had dinner with the Stewart's, taught
the Anderson's. Then we had correlation meeting with brother Ellico.
Afterwards we taught brother Fuchsberger.

Thursday February 19
Today we had weekly planning which is boring as usual. Afterwards we
had a lesson with Brother Ramsay, but he didn't answer the door. We
made visits the rest of the night pretty boring day.

Friday February 20
Today we had District Meeting where I gave a discussion on Charity
which I felt went pretty well! Our lesson with Robert got cancelled, but
rescheduled for tomorrow. We made visits the rest of the night to the
Wrights, Sullas, and Brother Flannery.

Saturday February 21
Today we did service for Barbara, which was fun and we got to break more
windows and take down a shed. Afterwards we headed into Flagstaff to
practice our musical number for the Priesthood Session tomorrow. We
got back and our appointment with Robert cancelled so we made visits
the rest of the day. Brother Flannery texted us just before dinner
saying he made a lot of sliders if we wanted to come over, so we ate
some pretty good sliders and talked to the Flannery's!

Sunday February 22
Today Brittany came to church but we didn't get the chance to talk to
them before they left. We taught the Adams, and had dinner at the
Smiths again. We then headed to Flagstaff for the Stake Priesthood
Conference and also performed Ye Elders of Israel which went well.
When we got back in town we went and gave Frankie a blessing because
she is sick.

I hope all is well with everyone.  Thank you for all the prayers for our investigators!

Love you all,
Elder Ashby

Steve and Sonia received a letter today from a member in Elder Ashby's ward in Williams:

Dear Ashby Family,

Hello.  I received your Christmas card & it was nice to see the rest of my Elder/Missionary's family.  I asked him to share the story behind the shot of everyone's shoes.  Funny!

My name is Frankie.  I'm a 62 year old widow and raising my grandson, Terrence, who is 13 and has Mosaic Downs Syndrome.  We are new to the Mormon faith, almost 1 year now.  We've loved the Lord and followed Jesus & the Holy Spirit's promptings since each of our childhood.  However, we didn't have the full truth of the Gospel until studying with the Elders.  I've been able to go to 2 different Temples for Baptisms for the Dead and receive my Patriarchal Blessing.  I've gotten a late start in Mormonism, so I am anxious to serve in callings ASAP.

We appreciate your sharing your son with us.  Since my grandson has no male role model in his life, he is especially fond of your son.  It has been a blessing to have him in our lives. I lived back East, an hour from the Canadian border in New York.  After 3 blizzards in a 6 week period I moved back to the West.  Your poor families have been really hit hard this winter!

God bless you all and know your son is doing a great work for us in our little mountain town of Williams.

Always in Christ,
Frankie & Terrance

Week 27

Hello everyone!

Another week has come and gone...Here is our weekly update...

Wednesday February 11
We got to head down to transfer meeting today to pick up our new truck! We also got to stay for the transfer meeting which was a lot of fun! We got back in town and made visits to end the night because our lesson with the Payne's cancelled.

Thursday February 12
Today after weekly planning we taught Sister Rhodes. After dinner we were supposed to go on splits but Brother Ellico needed to go into Flagstaff to get food for the ward party tomorrow so we taught Terrance and then set up all of the tables and chairs for the party. Pretty low key day.

Friday February 13
Friday the 13th!!! We had District Meeting today which was a lot of fun we talked a lot about object lessons. When we got back to Williams we helped brother Ellico decorate for the ward party tonightThe party consisted of a big chunk of the night. It was fun but not many people showed up. After everything was cleaned up I played Pace Mortensen in basketball for a little bit and showed him what's up, haha. It was a lot of fun!

Saturday February 14
Today we helped Brother Jackson with moving some ladies from one apartment to another. Then we helped stain the Terry's carport it was pretty tedious, but it was good to get some service. We taught Brother Ellico's mom, Betty, which went well. We made visits the rest of the night.

Sunday February 15
Nobody came to church today. We had dinner at the Smiths again, haha! Nobody wants to feed us on Sunday. Lately, not many people are even feeding us. We then taught Barbara the last of the new member lessons. We visited Brother Flannery and printed off something for our lessons. The other side of my toe now has a bad ingrown toenail and depending on how it is tomorrow I might call the nurse.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Love,
Elder Ashby

Week 26

Hello all,

Monday February 2
Today's episode started the ten week workout program which was a pretty good workout!  It was a pretty boring P-day.  We went into Flag to hang out with Elder Kwock and Ockey!  We exchanged music on our flash drives!  We went to the ZL's apartment to use their hair clippers to give ourselves haricuts because Sister Garibay cancelled on us again, but it's alright it got cut today finally!  We made some visits and set up lessons with members tonight.  We were super excited to teach Travis Grantham and ask about him praying for a baptismal date but they had to cancel again.  Oh well, we have a pretty busy day ahead of us tomorrow!

Tuesday February 3
Today we helped the London's move! :(  Jamie rescheduled for Thursday and Sister Rhodes wasn't home for our appointment.  We taught Chris and Rachel which was super awesome!  We taught them the Restoration!  I think they will definitely get baptized!  We headed to exchange and I have Elder Kwock in Williams and hte Spanish Elders are staying the night to work here tomorrow!

Wednesday February 4
Today Elder Kwock and I are in Williams.  As we were heading to the Church for online time we saw that people were loading a moving truck and apparently the truck we loaded yesterday broke down so they were reloading everything into a different truck!  We helped out and as we were leaving the London's daughter Avey ran up and gave me a hug, it was so heartwarming, I'm going to miss them so much!  WE made visits all afternoon.  Sister Wright took us to Pizza Hut for dinner.  After dinner we had a correlation meeting then a lesson with the Payne's.  Our lesson went really well and they seem to be slowly progressing.  I think Leah and Kolby will be at Church this Sunday.  Lee is going out of town for work.  Then we headed back to exchange.

Thursday February 5
We had our weekly planning today...boring as usual.  Our lesson with Jamie and also with the Trimble's cancelled.  We taught Brother Ramsay and had dinner with Brother Price.  It was a pretty low key day.

Friday February 6
Today we had Trainer/Trainee meeting in the Valley.  It was good and it was fun to hang out with Elder Kwock and Ockey!  Our lesson with Robert cancelled and the Lord's dropped off pizza for dinner.  It's pretty disappointing to not have a teaching appointment all day.  My ingrown toenail is getting pretty bad.

Saturday February 7
Today we taught Terrance and set up a lot of appointments.  My toenail didn't hurt as much today.  Hoping for a good turnout at Church tomorrow!

Sunday February 8
Had an AWESOME day!  We had four investigators at Church!!!  Travis Grantham, Kolby and Leah Payne and Chris!  We taught the Heaps, Pope's, Pearson's, had dinner with the Smith's, and taught the Christiansen's!  Our lesson with Taylor rescheduled.  We had as many lessons today as we did the entire week!  It was so cool to have so many investigators at Church!

Monday February 9
Today was a really good day!  We had Zone Meeting which was good and in the middle of it we got a call from our Vehicle Coordinator and he told us we are getting a new Nissan Frontier on Wednesday at transfers!  We were heading back to Williams and Cole texted us and set up and appointment so we had a very short dinner and taught him and it was really cool!  He told us his crazy background and we showed him the "Hope of God's Light" and it was almost exactly the same as his past, so it really hit home with him, it was awesome!  He is not a new investigator!  We gave the Stewart's blessings because they were all sick.  We taught Travis Grantham and although it was a short lesson it was really good because we talked about how much we cared about him personally and I think that he will continue to progress.

I hope all of you have had a great week like we have had!
Love you all,
Elder Ashby

Moving the London's

Message and pictures from Sister Flannery:
This is Elder Ockey here on transfers.  Elder Ute loved this day!  They were like two peas in a pod and got along so well.  This was a couple of weeks ago, today he is with Elder Kwock, who's also awesome.  Elder Ute is really great at getting along with EVERYONE!  He is so patient and kind, yet he "gets" people.

This was last night.  These guys were on fire!!!  I'm sure they'll tell you all about it, but they visited with a couple that is ready and they were pumped.  It's a couple that just showed up to the Williams Ward who were investigating and mentioned that "this feels right, better than any of the other churches we've been to."  Anyway, they were so excited about it!.  So this pic is them stopping by to tell us last night.  Had a bunch of YW here making honey candy, hence the globs in their mouth and my adorable photo bomber lol.

Gosh I love this pic even though it's blurry!!!  This was Sunday, just after they had met with the new 'on fire' investigators - who believe it or not stayed all three hours and even asked where they could get a copy of that 'one book'.  These guys answered a million questions in a three hour block and they were starving!

So here was donut night! These the Bishopric's kids all messing around in the 'fun garage' on a sugar high. But Elder Ute is always on one (without the sugar lol) which is why he's so much fun!

Elder Ute completely wimped out on the challenge, of which we made sure to give him crap for lol, He came post pizza and only at two donuts. Elder Rubibacher gave it a go, and ended up with 11.

But still, we did want to 'lie' just a tad and tell Elder Parkinson he was no longer the record holder at 18... But we'll be forgiven won't we?

Bad picture but hey, we'll let in any kind of rif raff lol. Love seeing these two and hearing all about their productive days!

And with that, I'll leave you with a beautiful Williams sunset. Have a great week Ashby's!

Week 25

Monday January 26
Today we woke up at 5 to get our laundry and shopping done before we had to head to flagstaff for our zone activity trip to Sedona to hike Devils Bridge! It was a lot of fun but very tiring! We hung out at the institute building afterwards! We had FHE with the Skinners, the Granthams had to cancel on us this week.

Tuesday January 27
Today we contacted our referral Jamie Amendola and she seems pretty solid we set up a church tour for tomorrow! We had dinner at the Terry's and then taught the Wamble family from the ward. We headed to Bellmonte for our exchange with the Zone leaders I'm in Flagstaff with Elder Christensen, Shepherd and Busick. Elder Shepherd and Busick are hilarious! Should be a fun day tomorrow!

Wednesday January 28
We woke up and headed to the church to workout with the workout book Elder Shepherd has which is a really cool book and it was a really good leg workout! After online time we went and visited some potential Investigators and former Investigators. We had to cancel an appointment with a part member family. We had dinner with the Spanish elders a member got us all chick fil a! Don't know how to spell it so don't judge! We went and taught a recent convert sister Jessop. Then we taught a new Investigator Sophie which was a super cool lesson we taught the first half of the restoration. We headed back to Bellemonte to exchange back. It was a really fun day with Elder Christensen! Back in Williams we had a church tour with our new referral Jamie Amendola and they taught her about the Book of Mormon. She seems really solid!

Thursday January 29
Today was pretty boring. We had our weekly planning then we helped Bob and Frankie find family names for their temple trip. We had dinner dr the Pearsons and made visits to end the night.

Friday January 30
We had zone conference in Prescott! I got to see Elder Davis, Jensen, and Earl! The meeting was from 10-4 but was really good and learned a lot! We got in a little trouble for our hike to Devils bridge but it wasn't a big deal. We made visits all night but as we were headed in we saw someone who had their car stuck on a curb and they were trying to get unstuck and we went to go help and the guy talking to the driver told us to call 911 because he was drunk so we did cops showed up and arrested him for DUI and had us fill out witness reports!

Saturday January 31
Today we had district meeting which included a fun activity where we were in groups of three people one blindfolded one was the spirit and one was the devil! The goal was to get to the end of the maze while trying to take directions from the spirit. In my group I was the devil and I would have to say I did a pretty good job of confusing elder Busick because everyone finished long before he did! Other than that the day was very uneventful. This week was super super slow... We have to stay in tomorrow unless we have appointments due to the Super Bowl.

Sunday February 1
Today we had fast and testimony meeting of course. I was fasting to have success and find new people to teach and guess what answer to my fast! Two random people Chris and Rachel came to church today just checking out different churches and they said it felt like home! They participated a ton in class and it was awesome! Travis Grantham also came to sacrament which was awesome can't wait to teach him tomorrow! Today was awesome we got to take a nap after church because we were in unless we had appointments. We had an appointment with the Christiansen's who are members and then had dinner at the Smiths! Heard the patriots won which made me happy haha just because I don't like the Seahawks.

Love you all,
Elder Ashby
